About the Series STATES OF HEALTH The photo collage series "States of Health" were inspired by my travels in Peru and Bolivia and, specifically, by a visit to the ruins on the principal site of the 2000 year-old Tiahuanaco Empire on the altiplano near La Paz. Some theories point to the stone sculpted heads on the walls in the Kalasasaya Temple as being "states of health" because the temple was a house of healing. The combination of symbols in these pieces is what we as humans still tend to mix together as spiritual support and hold as sacred: i.e. the church, ancestors, nature, gods, sorcery (herbs, witch craft) or shamans. Though the emphasis is on healing, the symbols are being regarded by the large shadow of a contemporary figure. There is a sense of voyeurism and suggestion that one must take precaution or be discerning.
