STEERING CLEAR
The birds in the “Steering Clear” series are from Richardson Bay (mostly Cormorants and Pelicans), Sacramento Wildlife Refuse (Snow Geese), and India near Jaisalmer (where our travel group saw several hundred Demoiselle Cranes).
Some thoughts I had while working on these collages: 1. A look below the surface leads to ghosts, echoes, shadows; 2. Lines, bars, cages and even baskets can be traps but also boundaries; and 3. Chaos and freedom threaten to overwhelm the stable but boring quality of technological exactness so images pop out rather than being contained, have human rather than perfect edges and are hand-made versus computer-created.
