TEXTURES OF INDIA
The collages in the “Textures of India” series were inspired by the light, materials and design in India that has drawn me to make a number of visits since 2001. My first series in 2003 was based on some antique sarees on the second floor of the Craft Museum in New Dehli. I took photos even though there was glass between my camera and the beautiful sarees and I included one of these in each collage.
Recently I went back to this series to continue working with the colors of red. Then I began expanding upon the original idea. I combined or “wove” together various textures and colors of painted and monoprinted papers with transparencies of some of my photos and salwar-kameezs!
